Biography

What originated as a house band for underground warehouse art parties in sweaty swampy Florida has become one of the Southeast's most recognized independent D.I.Y touring artists. Known for their incendiary and inspired live shows and led by a singer-guitarist evocative of dead 70's icons, the Beauvilles have travelled far and wide across the 48 states, playing hundreds of shows, dozens of festivals, throwing guitars haphazardly across stages, tossing wine at audiences and whisky on themselves.
"Raised in a southern Pentecostal Church that encouraged speaking in tongues, and becoming possessed by spirits; band leader and songwriter Shawn Kyle appears to have backslid into this particular pastiche of sweaty, confessional rock and roll music. He sounds as if he lives and dies with every word and note that the band performs. " -the Times, October 2009 Whispering Sin LP Review
In 2008 the Beauvilles found themselves opening for what have become some of the most critically acclaimed independent artists (the Warlocks, the Drive By Truckers, the Black Angels, Okkervil River, the Porcupine Tree, John Langford (Mekons / Waco Bros.), the Electric Six, Jon Doe (of X), Castanets, Alejandro Escovedo, the Whigs, Dead Confederate, Centro-Matic, and various other regional and national acts on multi-billed events.), while finishing up their first full length record using an abandoned house that they had the electric rigged up to and then filled with vintage vaccum tube music equipment.
"These guys...these guys are f*cking crazy..."- New West recording artist Jason Isbell of the Drive By Truckers on the Beauvilles opening performance slot.
In 2009 the Beauvilles signed a recording deal with full creative freedom and national distribution with 24hr Service Station (home to GG Allen, Pocket, and the distribution arm of many independent labels), headlined a Saturday showcase for CMJ Music Marathon 09 in NYC, headlined a Saturday showcase for SXSW09 in Austin Texas that became so over capacity the local fire marshall was called to bar the doors, were invited back to Austin to perform at Austin City Limits and then again for a show at the legendary Austin venue Antone's.
The Beauvilles' music video for the song Snow went on to win Best Music Video 2009 in the Sunscreen Film Festival. Looking more like a short film than a music video, and conceived and produced by songwriter, Shawn Kyle and film maker Jonathan Wolding of Ground Up Films, the video was a 3 month production, requiring multiple locations from snow topped mountains in Vermont to burned down historic buildings in Florida, climaxing with the band being shot by a cold-war era firing squad with real AK-47s. and has had over 30,000 views between different web page platforms. The video went on to appear on FUSE tv, MtvU, Brighthouse Networks, and several dozen Californian telivision networks.
The band has been selected as a must see artist by Creative Loafing Magazine (Chicago, Tampa, Atlanta, Charlotte), played the top rated party during ACL on do512.com, performed at festivals along with Against Me!, Girl Talk, Bad Brains, the National, Deerhunter, got into the documentary for the Harvest of Hope Festival (harvestofhopefest.com) and sold thousands of copies of their full length debut record, Whispering Sin to audiences from Miami to Minneapolis to Manchester while logging in an additional 50+ tour dates out of their home state before going back into the studio in October of 09.
"It is good to hear new music that has the same sort of sincerity and life in it as the scene that I was involved with."
- Tony Michalides of Factory Records and former Pr person for David Bowie and Joy Division, author of "Inside the Engine Room".
In 2010 the Beauvilles will be re-releasing their first EP, Singapore, along with a new full length record slated to hit the shelves in early February and a digital release of late January.

"The Beauvilles have been anything but cloistered since their inception six years ago. What started as an independent local band now has achieved a regional reputation. The Beauvilles have toured across the country several times, taking on the SXSW conference in Austin and the Nemo Music Festival in Boston. Their independently released first EP, Singapore, which, with its unabashedly catchy rock tunes, gained solid reviews and quickly sold out. Probing far into the dusty reaches of their proverbial vinyl collection, Singapore channeled influences as far flung as Hendrix and the Doors to Stravinsky and Cage. As a result of this effort, The Beauvilles were one of six unsigned Florida groups chosen out of a few thousand to compete in the NARAS/Grammy showcase in Miami."
